Deer Grate Information

Deer grates are structures that can be used in place of or in conjunction with a driveway gate to exclude deer and other wildlife. The grates consist of raised spaced slats on which deer won't walk.

This is an example of concrete deer grates in which the spacing is 3" with a rounded top part of each slat. The grates weigh about 8000 pounds and are placed in an excavated hole 1 foot deep (the distance from the top of the slat to the base underneath is one foot). Deer fencing is placed on either side of the grate to prevent deer from jumping sideways to get in.

This customer has a perimeter deer fence with a deer grate as a driveway solution. Grates can be made of different materials including steel and can be surrounded by masonry and other obstacles besides deer fencing - more information and pictures to follow in later posts.
