Deer Fence / Garden Fence Enclosure

A rainy start to our day building this garden enclosure for a customer in CT. It's roughly 100' of material and utilizes the "7.5 x 100' heavy duty small garden fence kit" materials found on our website here:
Garden Fence Kit

This is a nice setup for the average gardener. It includes a 1" opening size steel core base to exclude smaller animals.

This setup took 2 people 3 hours to install. For more information, please visit our respective websites:

Deer grate installation, concrete deer grates

Truck arrives with grates
Crane attaches grates
First grate lowered into hole
Getting ready for the 2nd one
Here it comes!
Almost there...
Placed. Now we need to fill in the gaps and put up the surround so deer can't jump diagonally across.
Very nice! Much better than the gate that was there before.

Metal Deer Grates

A few different pictures to showcase concrete & metal deer grates:

A farm type wide opening deer grate. These grates are a few years old and were purchased unpainted. Grates can be painted using any type of paint you choose after the fact or are available from us painted or powder coated.

A metal deer grate is convenient if you're closing a gap between a stone wall, etc. because of custom sizing

These pictures above represent an ideal metal deer grate scenario. The grates are wedged between four surfaces preventing them from moving over time. Also, the different material types used in this entrance create an interesting design look. Using metal grates will give you the capability of moving them around, effectively building them into your entrance. This can also be done with concrete grates but typically once they're placed you would build your entrance around the grates.

Deer Grate Information

Deer grates are structures that can be used in place of or in conjunction with a driveway gate to exclude deer and other wildlife. The grates consist of raised spaced slats on which deer won't walk.

This is an example of concrete deer grates in which the spacing is 3" with a rounded top part of each slat. The grates weigh about 8000 pounds and are placed in an excavated hole 1 foot deep (the distance from the top of the slat to the base underneath is one foot). Deer fencing is placed on either side of the grate to prevent deer from jumping sideways to get in.

This customer has a perimeter deer fence with a deer grate as a driveway solution. Grates can be made of different materials including steel and can be surrounded by masonry and other obstacles besides deer fencing - more information and pictures to follow in later posts.
